Anno. Es la segunda de cuatro películas que se lanzarán en la tetralogía Rebuild of Evangelion (Reconstrucción de Evangelion) basadas en la serie original de anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Fue producida y co-distribuida por el Studio Khara de Hideaki Anno.
Al contrario de lo que muchos creen, el proyecto Rebuild of Evangelion no se trata de una simple remasterización. Se trata de un proyecto nuevo en el cuál, además de cambios visuales y artísticos, tendrán lugar grandísimos cambios argumentales, los cuales podemos apreciar ya en este film y en su predecesor (Evangelion: 1.11 You are (Not) Alone).
