Emma, una chica de 16 años, por fin llega a la capital tras huir del cautiverio en el que habÃa estado toda su vida. Pero tan pronto como llega, todos los hombres de la ciudad, el rey incluido, se enamoran locamente de ella.
Cuando está a punto de casarse en contra de su voluntad, es salvada por un hechicero llamado Sión, uno de los más jóvenes y talentosos de la nación. Los dos ya se habÃan encontrado en el pasado, pero Emma no lo recuerda. Shión le explica a Emma que ella es Echidna, una bruja misteriosa y poderosa capaz de destruir el Mundo, que renace en forma de chica cada 500 años. Con dicho poder se puede dominar el Mundo, y mucha gente lo busca, pero hay una forma de librarse de él. El ritual necesario para eso consiste en que Emma se case con Shión.
