Sinopsis
Es el 18 de septiembre del año 0079 del Universal Century. Char Aznable, piloto as de Zeon (quien bajo su máscara oculta el rostro de Casval Deikun y su venganza personal contra la familia Zabi, soberanos de Zeon) ataca una de las colonias espaciales de Side 7, con el fin de destruir el nuevo y poderoso prototipo de Mobile Suit de la Federación Terrestre, el RX-78 Gundam. Pero durante la batalla, Amuro Ray, un joven civil de 15 años amante de las máquinas, termina en la cabina de pilotaje de la segunda unidad, el Gundam RX-78-2. La colonia es abandonada y sus habitantes obligados a refugiarse en la White Base, la nueva nave de combate de la Federación. Odiando la guerra, pero sin más remedio que pilotar el Gundam para salvar su vida y la de sus amigos, Amuro comienza un gran viaje que lo llevará a explotar capacidades que él pensaba no tener, y a encontrar a un nuevo y peligroso rival, Char Aznable.
