Death Note (デスノート, desu nōto?, "Cuaderno de la Muerte") es un manga creado por Tsugumi Ōba e ilustrado por Takeshi Obata, más tarde llevada al anime. La serie se centra en Yagami Light, un estudiante japones sobresaliente, quien encuentra un cuaderno sobrenatural llamado Death Note, el cual es capaz de matar personas con sólo escribir sus nombres en el y haber visto su cara. El manga fue publicado por la revista semanal Shōnen Jump entre diciembre de 2003 y mayo de 2006. En total se publicaron 108 capítulos, formando un total de 13 volúmenes.[1] El anime fue emitido en Japón entre el 3 de octubre de 2006 hasta el 26 de junio de 2007 por el canal de televisión NTV, transmitiéndose un total de 37 capítulos.

Por el momento, la serie se ha adaptado a tres películas live-action y a una novela escrita por Nisio Isin publicada el 1 de agosto de 2006, la cual pronfundiza la trama mostrada en el manga. La serie ha tenido un gran éxito tanto en Japón como en el exterior, obteniendo el premio Le Pégase en la vigésima quinta versión del Festival de Cine Fantástico de Bruselas.
